Trip Report – Aug 21 – Bicycle – Scottish Festival at the Amherst Museum

Five bicyclists started out from the Amherst Recreational Trail on a cloudy but rain-free morning. We wound our way through parks, bike paths, and quiet suburban neighborhoods (thanks to Ron Dorr for planning a great rout), including a newly re-tarred Erie Canalway. This lead to much smooth sailing, but, unfortunately, the part of it nearest to the Amherst Museum was so newly tarred that it was still sticky in parts, causing many of our tires to get gunked up and a bicyclist from another group to wipe out and get injured. After cleaning up at the museum, three of our riders headed back while two of us stayed for the Scottish Festival. There we were joined by two other ADKers and enjoyed listening to Pipe and contemporary Celtic band performances, and watched Highland Games and dog agility demonstrations. This writer even had Haggis for the first time. Mike P. was right, it is tasty! The two of us had a pleasant, uneventful, ride back. Submitted by Paul Kochmanski
